Description of Responsibilities:
The Police Officer at the City of Kenedy is tasked with maintaining public safety and order within the community. Responsibilities include patrolling designated areas, responding to emergency calls, conducting investigations, enforcing laws and ordinances, and providing assistance to citizens in need. Officers will also engage in community outreach programs and activities to foster positive relationships between the police department and the community.

Required Experience:
– High School Diploma or equivalent.
– Basic Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
– Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
– No prior felony or disqualifying criminal histories.

Required Skills:

Description of responsibilities:

– Maintain and repair street surfaces, including patching potholes, sealing cracks, replacing road surface materials, and compacting materials.
– Haul material, debris, supplies, and equipment to and from job sites using trucks and trailers.
– Paint crosswalks, curbs, street lines, and other pavement markings using stencils and painting equipment.
– Clean and repair storm drains by removing debris and addressing damage.
– Assist in the repair and installation of street signs.
– Set up barricades and temporary traffic control devices for special events and work areas.
– Install and remove holiday decorations and lights across designated public areas.
– Trim tree limbs and branches from roadways and sidewalks.

– Conduct routine inspections of water and sewer infrastructure to identify and address potential issues.
– Operate and maintain equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and leak detection devices.
– Perform preventative maintenance to extend the lifespan of water and sewer system components.

Required experience:

– High School Diploma or equivalent.
– Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
– Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, Class B CDL with air brakes and tanker Endorsement preferred.
– Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a water or wastewater operator as appropriate.
-Possession of or ability to readily obtain Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class D Water / Wastewater License is preferred.

Description of Responsibilities: 

The Animal Control Officer at the City of Kenedy is responsible for enforcing animal control ordinances, responding to and investigating animal complaints, and providing information to the public. Duties include maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and performing related tasks as assigned. The role requires the ability to handle and care for animals, patrol for stray animals, and respond to emergency calls. The officer will work under the limited supervision of the Chief of Police.

Major Duties:

– Receive, investigate, and respond to complaints about stray, wild, or owned animals.
– Address emergency calls involving animal cruelty, bites, stray animals, and dangerous wildlife.
– Patrol for sick or stray animals, ensure licensing and vaccinations, and impound abandoned animals.
– Maintain the animal control facility, ensuring cleanliness and proper maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
– Investigate animal bites, prepare reports, and issue quarantines and release letters.
– Transport animals for testing and dispose of carcasses properly.
– Prepare and maintain various records and reports as per State and City policies.
– Complete assigned health and safety courses to ensure a safe work environment.
– Perform related duties as needed.

Required Experience:

– High School Diploma or equivalent.
– Valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
– Experience in animal control or related field is preferred but not required.

Required Skills:

– Thorough knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations related to animal control.
– Understanding of the geography of the City.
– Expertise in the care, control, and handling of animals.
– Proficiency in specialized animal capture techniques and operating an automobile.
– Ability to recognize rabies symptoms and other animal diseases.
